Synopsis

He’s determined to protect her.
She’s determined to tempt him.
Together, things get RILED up.

RILE
It’s a job,
Only a job.
I’m doing a favor for the Queen,
But watching over this young, sexy, and incorrigible woman is frustrating,
As she parades around half-naked without a care in the world.

My mind and body won’t agree.
But when her life is threatened,
My sixth sense kicks in.
Saving her is my only mission.
But everything about her has me all RILED up.

Kensington
Suffocating,
I’m nearly drowning in this life I’m trapped in.

But when he comes in to watch over me,
Things are definitely looking up.
He’s sexy and rugged as Hell.
Tempting him becomes my favorite hobby.

Something’s holding him back,
Something haunts him, or is it someone?
I’m determined to help him get rid of his pain,
Let go of his demons.

After all, this man’s got me all RILED up.

Review

This is the second book that I have read by Heather Slade and I am so happy that I found her as an author. I absolutely loved this book!!! Heather Slade writes a heart breakingly romantic book that has your emotions on a rollercoaster…and I loved every minute of it. Heather Slade’s characters were fantastic. I liked both Kenzie and Rile right away and grew to like them more and more as the book went on! Heather Slade has great descriptive writing, where you are able to imagine the scene that she is describing in your mind’s eye perfectly. The only “complaint” that I had is that there were so many different security people involved that I had a hard time keeping track of all of them. While minor characters compared to Kenzie and Rile, their names and jobs were mentioned a lot and it seemed as though as soon as I got a couple down, a few more would be introduced. Other than that minor dislike, the book was FANTASTIC!!!!! I can’t wait to read more by Heather Slade!

About the Author

I write stories set in places I love with characters I’d be happy to call friends. The women in my books are self-confident, successful, and strong, with wills of their own, and hearts as big as the Colorado sky. And the men are sublimely sexy, seductive alphas who rise to the challenge of capturing the sweet soul of a woman whose heart they’ll hold in the palm of their hand forever. I grew up an East Coast girl, and then spent half my life on the West Coast. Now my husband, our two boys, and I happily call Colorado home.

Undercover Agent

Thank you to Heather Slade for the gifted copy of Undercover Agent. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Synopsis

Resisting a cocky undercover agent is her mission impossible…

Lynx
It was one night,
A night of pure passion and desire,
A night I will never forget.
But she walked out,
And I never stopped thinking about her.
And now, she’s back
Within reach.
And again, she’s off-limits,
Belongs to someone else,
One of my men.
Teaming up with her to take down
Those who threaten our freedoms
Seems like a perfect way to get close to her,
But there’s more at stake than ever before.

Emerson
I never forgot him.
He was—is—everything.
But the timing was off;
I had more happening in my life than I could handle.
And now, with him right there,
I can feel how much I’ve missed:
His touch, his scent, his taste.
Except, there’s more on the line
Than a love affair.
We have to keep it professional.
But can I do that when
I need so much more from this undercover agent?

Review

I recently discovered both Heather Slade and The Cocky Hero Club novels, and boy am I glad that I did!! I absolutely loved the story. The characters were awesome…equal parts sass and steam from both Lynx and Emerson, which made for a page turning story that I just could not put down. Lynx, the cocky British undercover agent and Emerson a scientist with mad skills thrust together to save the world, while trying to fight the feelings they have for each other…what could go wrong?!? While this was a romance novel, there was also action, adventure, and mystery woven in, which I really enjoyed. Heather’s writing pulled me in at page one and before I knew it, I was done with the book. I loved her descriptive writing – describing the characters and the story in a way that sucked me right in and made me feel like I was part of the story…like I was walking alongside the characters living the same things they were. This story had equal parts romance and action/adventure and I loved every minute of it! While this was the first book I read by Heather Slide, you better believe that I will be picking up many more of her books in the future (more specifically the near future)!

Concerned for his safety, Claire follows the kitten into the empty home and stumbles across the body of a murdered jewelry thief. As if that isn’t enough, the next day Claire receives a cryptic message from a student that she taught last year.

As Claire begins to try and contact the former student to inquire about the strange email, the more dangerous her life becomes. Suddenly someone is after Claire and the missing jewels. As the killer’s attacks escalate, Claire decides to take matters into her own hands. With an old friend who’s now a detective and his handsome older brother, they pursue the murderer. Claire has a plan. It isn’t perfect, but anything is better than becoming the next victim.

Review

This was a nice quick read that I really enjoyed. Monique Bird has a unique way of writing that keeps that story light an airy, while still weaving the scariness of a murder and someone’s life being in danger. In addition, Monique Bird had a way of writing that allowed me to walk along side Claire, and be “a part of her life.” It was so much fun to read and see what kind of trouble Claire got into. Monique Bird also did a fantastic job of keeping me guessing. Every time I thought they had captured the killer and Claire’s life was now safe, there was a twist that Monique through in to push you off the right track. These twists added such fun to the story that you could not help but laugh at Claire and her bad luck. This was a great cozy mystery and I really enjoyed discovering Monique Bird as an author. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series and other books of Monique’s.

Witches Protection Program

I recently reconnected with Goddess Fish Promotions to be a reviewer of up and coming books. When I first read the symopsis of this book, I said to myself, “I just have to read this book.” I was excited to read this this author, Michael Okon, and see what his writing style was like as I have not ready any of this author’s other works.

Synopsis

Meet Wes Rockville – a law enforcement agent that has disgraced his family name. His father, Harris, has fired him from his job in a federal undercover branch that has been created to perform jobs that local law enforcement couldn’t handle. Harris gives his son one more chance to prove himself in a secret government organization that is 232 years old: The Witches Protection Program.

There is just one problem. Wes does not believe in witches. He is skeptical that they are real and living under the noses of him and everyone around him. Wes’ first assignment is to protect Morgan Pendragon. Her aunt, Bernadette, is the head of Pendragon Cosmetics, a billion dollar cosmetics company. Wes’ job is to figure the company’s diabolical plan to take over the world. Will Wes be able to accept that witches are real? Will Wes and long time veteran witch protector and Wes’ new partner, Alastair, be able to stop the company’s plan before it is too late?

Review

When I first read the synopsis of this book, it intrigued me right off the bat. Growing up I loved watching shows like “Charmed.” (And if you must know, I still enjoy watching it, but the original series, not the new one on the CW 🙂 ) You always here about the bad witches or the “Wicked Witch” in movies like “Wizard of Oz.” I was fascinated by the prospect that there could be good witches that protect the world for the greater good.

As I started to read the book I was not sure if it was going to live up to the expectations that I had given the book after reading the synopsis. The book started out a little slow for me and I was not sure where it was going to go, however after reading 30+ pages, the book really picked up and it was full of the action and adventure that I expected. The book was full of great writing and descriptions that made it easy to imagine exactly what was happening. The descriptions Michael Okon provided in this book made the book an excellent and exciting read. Once started, I could not put this book down. I hope that there will be more books written by Michael Okon that will continue to story of Wes, Alastair, and the Witness Protection Program!!!

Excerpt from Witches Protection Program

The narrator filled in more information. “It wasn’t until this land became my land that the government decided to create an organization to protect women at risk. The Davina Doctrine went against everything that the Willas stood for. Even though they ran the risk of persecution, the Davinas chose to work with law enforcement to expose the evil deeds of the rival sisterhood. President George Washington established secret legislation under Title VI of the Control Act of 1792. The law was enacted to protect the good witches that exposed the evil deeds of their sisterhood.”

The screen went dark. There was only a chair in the center of a dimly lit stage. A single spotlight focused on the top of the blond actress’s head. Wes was right; it was the actress he’d suspected. She had a hit sitcom and two Emmys, and there was some recent Oscar talk about her last movie.

“Yes. There are witches. Living among us. They are women who believe in using their power to protect love and life. And then there are some who use their powers for all the wrong reasons.”

The camera came to rest on her beautiful face. She winked saucily as she placed a triangular witch’s hat on her head. “Welcome to the Witches Protection Program.”

Alastair smiled broadly. “I love that part.”

“That was Jennifer Anis—”
